PACK WALKS

& COMMUNITY EVENTS

  • Pack walks are meetups with other like-minded dog owners looking to utilize their walks as a training opportunity rather than a rehearsal of more undesirable behavior like pulling, lunging, barking, disengagement with the owner. Together we will walk as a group without the dogs interacting; the goal is to keep your dog focused on you.

Many people use pack walks to work through reactivity, fearfulness, over-excitability, obedience and engagement. Additionally, this gives you dedicated time to spend with your dog, gets you both exercise, boosts your mood, you can meet other people struggling with similar issues or you can learn about other issues, and it’s a controlled environment with watchful eyes (me).

These meetups will offer a mix of drills and exercises to increase neutrality along with traditional group walking.

Each event will offer different dogs, locations, times, and exercises, so you can come as often or as little as you like and you will still learn something new every time!

  • Absolutely not. Canine interactions are incredibly important, but they should be an exception, not a rule. In other words when you allow it, not when they demand it. Allowing a dog to find more value in other dogs than you or allowing unregulated play, can lead to fear, aggression, reactivity, lack of trust, and other problematic behaviors.

One of the biggest things I see missed in owner’s relationships with their dogs is advocacy. It is my goal to help each and every one one of my clients to better understand their dogs needs and become their greatest advocate.

  • Most trainers will only offer pack walks to clients. This is to ensure the safety of all dogs and to guarantee everyone involved has the same intention: to give their dog a neutral/positive experience co-existing with other dogs and work on their handling skills.

I am opening this to the public with a cost in hopes that non-members (those who are not clients) understand this and choose to be respectful by following the guidelines.

  • If you do not have the confidence or skill to effectively manage your dog in public, I offer (1) working spot per pack walk.

This is not a private lesson, but it is a great opportunity to see their potential with a skilled handler while getting them the proper socialization they need.

  • Absolutely! As long as you are able to focus on your dog and ensure the kids respect the rules of not approaching other dogs, I love to have the whole family involved.

  • There are guidelines. Make sure to review these below.

If you are already a respectful and aware dog owner, I promise you, you likely already do all of these things without realizing it!

  • Sign-ups are required and you can do so below! There are limited spaces to ensure a good time for all!

  • A small fee.

$15 for non-members (if you are not a member and want to be, now is the time to get on board!)

50% for members (if you are a member and interested, you will receive the code in your welcome packet.)

Having a small fee prevents no-shows and this takes time and coordination on my end to make it happen.

  • Bring the equipment you typically use to walk/handle your dog, water (for you and your dog), and poop bags.

  • All locations will take place in and around Grand Junction, CO. We will be rotating locations and times to be accessible to everyone that wants to be involved and to give frequent pack walk participants a change of scenery.

Locations will be exclusive to Newsletter subscribers, so make sure to sign-up at the bottom of this page and keep me out of your spam folder!

  • The main focus of our pack walk will be to work on maintaining neutrality around other dogs and exciting environments. Bonus, you get to spend quality time with your dog, get some exercise (did you know 56% of dogs in America are overweight? YIKES), and meet other like-minded dog owners. It's going to be a BLAST!

To ensure the safety and enjoyment for all owners and dogs attending the pack walk, the rules will be as follows:

    • Locations and times will always be announced via email. Check your spam folders to make sure you don't miss anything.

    • One dog per adult.

    • Please bring any training tools you are currently using to walk your dog (slip lead, prong collar, halti, muzzle, squirt bottle, treats, etc.)

    • To make things as easy as possible, please have your dog 'color-coded' (via a scarf, leash, sweater etc.) based on the following:

      GREEN - friendly

YELLOW - fearful; avoid approaching or interactions

RED - aggressive or reactive; avoid approaching or interactions

    • ABSOLUTELY NO nose-to-nose greetings or butt sniffing. Maintain a distance of around 6' from all other dogs, especially when not moving.

    • Only traditional leashes no longer than 6'; no retractables, or long-lines

    • Dogs must be under control and on leash at all times

    • While this group is open to the public, if your dog is excessively reactive I will ask that you create enough distance to keep them under threshold.

    • If the safety of all involved is not respected, you will be asked to leave. No refund will be issued.

    • If you are struggling, I will help to the best of my ability, but private lessons may be recommended or required in order to attend future pack walks.

If you have any questions about any of these rules or are wondering if this is a good fit for you, please do not hesitate to text me 970-822-7125 or email and I will get back to you within 24 hours.
